NEWSLETTER NO. 2
20 October 2006
The cricket season is well underway now.
Thank you to all those juniors who have paid their fees. The club appreciates this as at the start of
each season there are enormous costs to get the club running. Fees are due by
the end of October.
The club is fundraising every Saturday morning with a sausage sizzle to provide lights for junior night games and to improve the practise facilities and it would be appreciated if you would help out for an hour or so during home games. The sausage sizzle is held outside the club rooms near the market side and volunteers are needed during the 8.30 -10.30 period.
Geoff Harm, Julia and Ken McKnight have helped and of course, our
charismatic “Sausage King” Paul, Jenny
Walker and Claire Stacey.
Claire is our new canteen co-ordinator and is a very capable and
delightful young woman with lots of enthusiasm. She is the partner of the first grade captain Adam Crowley.
The club thanks Don and Nichole McCord for the use of their mower while
our club mower is being repaired.
The club also thanks Frank and Janelle Whyte who have bought cricket
gear for our U10s.
If you are interested in learning how to score, Jenny Walker our club
scorer since the age of 11 is holding work shops. A couple of mums have already shown interest and Jenny has
arranged a date for this Wednesday after-
noon. If you are interested
phone Jenny on 5446 6163.
Terri Maher has suggested we get professional photos of the teams. If you wish to purchase a photo please
notify your team managers so we have an idea of numbers to order. When we know this we will be able to inform
you of a price.
Please note that juniors (and a certain coach) must wear appropriate
footwear during training to avoid accidents and to be covered by insurance.
We also welcome Julia LeMonde (Daniel and Corey’s Mum) to the
Committee. Julia is the club’s social
director and aims to further the family orientated focus of the club by
offering extra social events, e.g. trivia nights, charity fund raising, family
cricket Sundays and bus trips to other sporting events etc. Watch the newsletters and website for
upcoming social events.
NEWSLETTER NO.1
Welcome to 2006/07 Cricket Season.
Newsletters will also be
handed out at training, approx fortnightly.
If anybody (player or parent) wants to write an article in the
newsletter about the game, please either notify your manager or email me at dougwalkerbb@dodo.com.au
Please keep informed about
what is happening in the club and if there are any queries or problems get in
touch with one of the committee members listed at the top of the page.
Parents (both mums and
dads) who can help out at training during games would be most appreciated. Too often it is left to the same people each
week to cope on their own. Support
from parents at training and at games is essential.
For those parents and
players interested in learning how to score/ umpire let me know and we will run
a workshop.

Games 1 & 2
Our first match against Noosa produced an outright win,
giving the u15's
their first 10 points. We had some outstanding bowling figures with Matt
Wadley 2/16 from 5 overs, both Dylan Simmons 5/18 and Tyson Kettlewell 4/34
from 10 overs each, over the 2 days. Kain Van Beek scored 14 from
25
balls, a good effort for his first cricket match. Lee Duffy and Matt
Phipps
topped off play with 3 catches each. A great team effort by all players,
thanks to the u17 players who helped make up team numbers for the first day.
THEN CAME MALENY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The players weren't given a chance to stand on their lorels for too long.
The first day of play, with Maleny winning the toss and putting Yandina into
bat produced 8 ducks with Dom Hayes top scoring on 10. A good effort and
plenty of encouragement and pep talks to keep their spirits up, rallied
the
boys to keep Maleny down to 231. Bowling figures produced were Lee Duffy
2/12 Matt Phipps 3/40 Matt Harm 2/35 and great catches
from Matt Gerbes,
Matt Phipps and Dom Hayes.
The second day of play produced a more determined effort from the boys, Matt
Harm's 9x4's, 46 from 32 balls,and Matt Gerbes's 3x4's 14 from 32 set them
off to a good start. The rest of the team followed through, with the
score
reaching 9/99. Maleny has some excellent bowlers,
with 3 of the 4 first day bowlers bowling again the second day, it was a
learning experience and the boys did a much better job of coping with these
very quick accurate bowlers.
